Abstract

This thesis examines the evolution of the press in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura between 1852 and 1982, focusing the analysis on the features of newspapers and their role as promoters of the local public opinion. Altogether, seventy-two local mastheads have been studied and moreover, it has been made an approach to the correpondants from the second half of the twentieth century. The research starts from a study about the context in which these issues arose: society, economy, politic, means of transport, education, technologies, etc. After presenting a general description of newspapers from both islands and their main current of opinion, conclusions have been compared with the historical evolution of the press in other areas of Canary Islands, Spain and Europe.
