Abstract

This article points out from a gender perspective how use and appropriation differs on two centrally located public spaces: the Vazquez Montalbán square that was completed within this decade in El Raval neighborhood (Barcelona); and Primero de Mayo square modified at the beginning of this century in the neighborhood of Cuatro Torres (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). A qualitative methodology based on direct systematic observation and surveys was conducted on public spaces in order to know current asymmetries in men’s and women’s daily life.
