Abstract

Accompanying this article are translations into Spanish of two poems by the post-symbolist poet, John Antoine Nau. They represent instances of allusions to the Canary Islands in French literary texts, the documentation of which is a project that has occupied our attention for sorne time now. In 'Caladoras' and 'Tinerfeña', the titles of the two poems, Nau sees the island woman in the context of an impressionist image in which both light and shade and the monochrome and the rainbow alternate. Through these poems he offers us his personal view of Canarian society at the beginning of the 20'h century
