Abstract
The kinetics of the reaction between CO2 and diethanolamine (DEA) in isopropanol were studied in a wetted-wall laboratory column at 298 K. The reaction order with respect to DEA, n, and the apparent kinetic coefficient, k, were determined under experimental conditions that ensured a pseudo-first-order reaction regime. The values obtained were n = 1.7 and k = 76 (m3/kmol)1.7 s-1. The reaction can be described according to the zwitterionic mechanism, originally proposed by Caplow (9) and developed by Dankwerts (12), with elementary step kinetic coefficients of k1 = 208.9 m3/(kmol.s) and k2/k3 = 1.71 kmol/m3.
