Abstract
After the approval of Law 26/2015, of July 28, on modifying the protection system for children and adolescents, few studies have focused on analyzing the variables that may affect the learning and school achievement of children at risk. This study was considered with a double purpose. On the one hand, to analyze the differences of academic goals in students at risk and students without risk situation, schooled in Compulsory Secondary Education. On the other hand, we wanted to identify the motivational profiles of students at risk and their relation to academic performance. A sample of 733 students enrolled in public secondary schools was selected, of which 137 students were declared at risk. The results showed that there were significant differences between the academic goals of the students without and at risk. Students at risk had lower learning and achievement goals than their colleagues in Compulsory Secondary Education.
