Résumé

Active learning is a strategy that improves engineering students’ analytical and interpretative skills, but students usually require some knowledge at the beginning of the problem solving process to keep motivation high. Most students feel uncomfortable and lost when having to find knowledge by themselves when they have not strong problem-solving skills, so the most common practice is combining lectures with active learning to guide students. Exams are then usual to test student’s knowledge; however, it is important to make those exams relevant to students so they can contrast what they though they know against what they really know. For this purpose, we developed a training test-exams concept to foster active learning. This method permitted engineering students realizing what knowledge they really learn in an active learning environment, and then using this knowledge as a starting platform for their problem-solving process.
