Abstract

ABSTRACT:Introduction. Educational attention to students with high intellectual abilities (AACCII) is an indisputable need. Talent needs an education according to its capacity. In view of this, this attention needs a previous detection and identification that promotes a quality educational response. The aim of this research is to show the identification map of high ability students in Spain, differentiating between provinces, as well as between educational levels. Method. This research has followed a documentary methodology. Data were obtained from the statistics of the 2018-19 academic year provided by the Spanish Ministry of Education. The data were graphically transformed into thematic maps, using the statistics and a cartography of Spain, using the GIS program Manifold version 8. Results. We obtained 6 thematic maps reflecting the proportion of diagnoses in AACCII for the 2018-19 academic year, differentiating provinces and educational level. Discussion. The identification of AACCII students in Spain is still below theoretical values. The absence of a definition and the same diagnostic criteria throughout the territory makes it difficult to identify these students. Unfortunately, this promotes a differentiation at the level of detection, identification and care that makes it impossible to provide an educational response adapted to the needs of the most intelligent and talented students.Key words: High abilities, identification, autonomous communities.
