Abstract

Abstract Self-absorption and daydreaming are forms of a lost gaze that, even if they are considered trivial gestures or behaviours, could be defined as (audio-)visually evasive. Susceptible to being considered bodily disobedient strategies, they would, consciously or unconsciously, evade capitalist forms of sensory exploitation. This article analyses both cases of a lost gaze by relating them to dematerialized artistic practices or those indebted to the ready-made by Francis Alÿs, Roman Ondák, and Ceal Floyer. All of these try to insert other gazes into the everyday through artistic experience, attempting to dissolve the boundary between both dimensions. Keywords: Self-absorption; daydreaming; gaze; interruption; gesture.
