Margarita Alvarez de la Rosa has been an associate professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of La Laguna since 2012. She completed her MIR residency at Hospital La Paz in Madrid (1994-1998). She obtained a PhD in Medicine and Surgery degree from the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Autonomous University of Madrid under the direction of Professor Antonio González González with a Doctoral Thesis on the "Role of maternal interleukins in idiopathic preterm birth". She continued his training with a postdoctoral stay, with a MEC scholarship, (1998-1999) in the laboratory of Professor Frederick Naftolin, in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Yale University School of Medicine (USA) with an interval in the laboratory of Professor Jesús Avila de Grado at the Center for Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa UAM, for the study of the role of estrogens in Alzheimer's disease. Since 2001 she has been a specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. She obtained the Accreditation of the ACECAU as Profesor Contratado Doctor in 2008. She has a Master's degree in Design and Statistics in Health Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She has been part of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Ultrasound Unit since 2005. She has been a tutor of residents between 2010 and 2018. Her current research focuses on the study of obstetric ultrasound, fetal malformations, pregnancy termination, and premature birth. She has directed four doctoral theses and eight Trabajos de Fin de Grado. She is a reviewer for several scientific journals (Obstetrics and Gynecology, Placenta, European Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology).
