Abstract

A serious problem that educational institutions face worldwide is dropping out of the studies. The reports reflect every year worrying figures, which show the difficulties faced by the universities for many students complete their training as competent professionals. In order to locate the main causes behind this phenomenon and draw conclusions for practice, a method of reviewing literature sources were followed and significant results of previous research carried out in our context described. The results show that the defection presents a multi-causal structure, since it is determined by a variety of variables, among which are those of a psychological nature, which requires the implementation of guiding preventive measures that favors adaptability to different contexts . Among these measures, it highlights the contributions from the university tutor and from the work of the tutor can do to contribute to the retention of students in higher education
