Resumen

The intellectual foundations of eighteenth-century Europe was reflected in Spain illustrated in the foundation upon which the bourgeois ideal of XIX would develop settled. In the case of Canary Islands attended over the last century many changes reflected especially in the urban areas of the archipelago, where the city of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) and the flourishing of social spaces, formal and informal, played a leading role in its evolution. Within the formal sociability spaces associationism became one of the main strongholds through which the bourgeoisie, local and foreign (especially French and English), affected the progress of the city and the archipelago to contemporary; promoting or participating, from civil society, cultural activities, scientific inquiry, architectural and urban planning, etc.. that allowed the bourgeois group grow, consolidate and project outwards. Several examples formal sociability in the city of Las Palmas in the nineteenth century and have been treated in this thesis are the Lyceum, Athenaeum, and Literary Cabinet Museo Canario; mainly focus on the latter, Cabinet and Museum, being two of the oldest, stable groups (their activity has survived to this day) and great historical influence in the cultural and scientific development of the Canary Islands. Museo Canario Literary Cabinet and became an integral bourgeois project from which to build an aesthetic that was adapted to new contexts; and drew on the symbolism of the sources of cultural tradition and other groups (cultural centers, circles, Masonic lodges, ...), national and international artistic movements, the political context; etc.; to construct a language of the bourgeois ideology and the canary to Spain and the world, which were successful in the city through the public space as a meeting place. In short, this thesis provides new content on the Literary Cabinet and the Museo Canario and the relations established between the two, delving into the history of cultural and heritage management of cultural and scientific institutions of the nineteenth century but based in Canary projection national and international. And you revalorizándolas to treat them as actors and direct managers and created its own assets, tangible and intangible, beyond the condition of assets themselves.
