Abstract

In this paper the dynamics of poverty in Venezuela is studied using a rotary pseudo-panel of three years in the period consisting between the first half of 2006 and the second half of 2009. From this panel the household poverty measure is decomposed in chronic and transitory components according to the approach of Episodes of Foster (2007). This approach presents a new family of chronic poverty measures based on FGT poverty indicators. We also try to determine which household characteristics are important to increase or decrease the likelihood of entry or exit from poverty using both the Discrete regression model of Cox as well as the Logistic Regression.
