Abstract

The most relevant features of persons of foreign origin in television vary significantly if they are famous or not. In the first case, they usually have good working conditions and economic. Besides, they respect the host society law, and they haven't cultural incompatibility problems, aggressiveness or dependency. This doesn't happen with immigrants that aren't famous. They have worst job categories, most frequently they commit illegal acts or they say to have the intention to do so, they perform the role of victims in a greater percentage of time, and they are often more dependent on the help of others to solve their own problems. These results come from a comprehensive study on the representation of immigrants on television. In this paper is extracted the data about informative gender. The technique used was the content analysis. The sample consisted in television programming with the largest audience on Tenerife Island.
