Abstract

One of the main professional activities of the building engineer is applying the knowledges to real cases. Therefore, the achievement of the competence: “ability to apply knowledge to practice” is one of the most valued by graduates and employers. The aim of this educative innovation project is teaching to students, which will be future construction professionals, the advanced methodologies and techniques that are being currently used for the characterization, identification and diagnosis of building materials Instrumental and technical support was requested to the Research Support General Service of the University of La Laguna to achieve the aims of this project. The thermogravimetric analysis, the CHNS elemental analysis and the helium pycnometry were used to carry out testing on the following binders: lime, gypsum, Portland cement and calcium aluminate cement. The results of the innovation project were presented by the students in an informative video which was published on the Youtube channel of the ULLmedia service of the University of La Laguna.
