Resumo

During the thirties many governments of different political tendencies became aware of the enormous influence of cinema on society. Almost all of them, even the democratic ones, hastened to control the content of the movies through censorship. Grand Canary, a 1934 Fox Film Corporation, it became a very controversial film in Spain because the way it represented the social situation of the Canary Islands in those years. Worried about the serious prejudices the film could make to the touristic image of the islands, the government of the Spanish Second Republic decided to ban the public exhibition of the movie in its territory.
