Abstract

Puerto de la Cruz is a tourist destination which, following the tourism area life cycle (Butler, 1980), can now be located in a period previous to the decline phase, because of the obsolescence process which suffer most of the accomodation establishments in this consolidated tourist destination. This paper will analyse on the one hand the possibilities this tourist destination has to develop new tourist accomodation infrastructure as well as its present growth limitations, and on the other hand, it will study the recently working reinvention strategies for the already existing accomodations, the commitment to investment policies that help public-private space and urban renovation.
