Abstract

Following a wide tendency of his own time, Poe chose the sea as the setting of some of his narrative works and he wrote about sea life and experiences. This paper deals with four pieces of Poe's marine fiction: MS. Found in a Bottle, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym, A Descent into the Maelstrom and The Oblong Box.
