Abstract

Irrationality, such as it is presented in Davidson's work, poses a series of problems: (i) the difficulty encountered in reconciling Davidson's account of irrationality conflicts with his theory of content, because the latter is based on the rationality of agents; (ii) according to Davidson, we have to be conscious of our own irrationality, and this prevents us from taking into consideration unconscious mental states that could be relevant in explaining of rational o irrational actions; (iii) Davidson defends the explanations given in folk psychology, while he rejects scientific. psychology as much for the 'a priori', non- empirical, nature of normative principles, as for the anomalism of mental events.
