Abstract
Stigmas, as differential marks, elicit both affective-emotional reactions and behavioral responses towards the bearers of such marks. From an attributional perspective, it is assumed that the origin of behavioral and affective reactions to stigmatized people are both motivated by the nature of stigma and by the attributional explanations about its cause. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of causal information about the stigma on affective reactions and intended behavior of non stigmatized people towards stigmatized people. Therefore, an experimental research was designed to analyze differences in affective reactions and intended behavior to different types of stigmas. Results show that differences in affective reactions and behaviors to stigmatized groups are diminished in the presence of causal information about the stigma.
