Resumen

Two mythical motives in the neolatin poetry in relation with the epigrams on the works of art are that of Medusa and Niobe. The neolatin poets develop the various motives of these epigrams, such as that of the metamorphosis of the statue and the symbolism of the materials of which is fashioned the work of art. Both myths have a complementary character. Applying it to the love poetry, the myth of meusa symbolizes the cruelty of the loved, as apposed to that of Niobe, joined to the theme of the statue which is still suffering beyond its transformation and it's good for expressing the situation of the lovesick.
