Abstract
In some cases, the morpheme -i- as found in Spanish compound words such as carricoche, pelirrojo, etc., has been interpreted by grammarians as the coordination copulative conjunction y. In other cases, they consider it as a mere linking particle. Here I try to defend that the only semantic function of -i- in Spanish language is to add the meaning of the first part of the compound word to the second part of the such a word.
