Resumen

New evidence is offered guaranteeing the necessity to elaborate new standard scales to Spanish version of NEO-PI-R instrument, published in TEA in 1999, considering gender, age, and academic grade. 200 undergraduate university students and 560 adults were assessed. Results indicate that there are clear gender-groups and age-groups (five age-groups ranged from 18 to 70 years for adults, and two age groups ranged from 19 to 30 years for students) differences within sample; and also differences between samples. One single differential pattern applicable to the characteristics and the facets does not appear. These data indicate that the processes of intrinsic maturation that defend Costa and McCrae for the five basic tendencies are sufficiently important like considering them in the accomplishment of standard scales adapted to each culture where they are used, having in consideration age, gender, and academic level variables
