Abstract
J.A. Álvarez Rixo early realized how worthwhile could be the study of the special features of the Spanish of the Canaries and he devoted a good deal of effort and time to this task, as it can be seen in different writings on this topic, but his contribution at this level is not limited to his linguistic works but it also covers the whole of what he wrote throughout all his life, in which we are provided a rich amount of information on the language spoken in the Isles two centuries ago.
