Abstract

The migration of women from Canary Islands was significant in the past, though it is difficult to estimate the real figures. Additionally, it not easy to ascertain the role they played in the society as a very important link between new generations and their homeland. However, one could think that those women contributed to spread their culture and to set familiar and ethnic networks. Thus, they have likely been very important in the promotion of the Canarian identity in America, teaching their culture, traditions and religion. Nevertheless history has not estimated or followed their important role in the emigration to America.
