Abstract

The peculiar dynamics of labour relations in the public education sector calls for much thoughtful reflection in the area of Sociology. One of the starting points should be the history of class trade unionism in that sector. The historical relevance of the trade union, Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), justifies a vigorous analysis of the formation process of its Teaching Federation in the late 1970’s. During that process, the then named «movement of teachers» came up against many powerful debates about its own identity as an assembly movement, in which the contribution of the class organizations which were appearing at the time was very important. This essay offers a description and analysis of the process which eventually led CCOO to the definition of issues such as the model of organization and trade union action in the education sector in the late 1970’s.
