Abstract
This paper offers the list of fees charged by scriveners and other justice officers in early sixteenth century Gran Canaria. A comparison with the royal fees throws light on some aspects of judicial practice and on the cost of the professinal services provided by those officers. The analysis of the arguments in favour of the local fees and against the royal ones sheds also light on the cost of living in that island.
