Abstract
Mocking names and nicknames (chicharrero, conejero...) are really names used in the Canary Islands to «motivatingly» identify individuals born in a particular place. Due to changes in the cultural paradigm affecting the Canary Islands since the 1960s, many of these units have fallen into decline nowadays. This essay analyzes how these names act and respond at the linguistic, stylistic, and pragmatic levels.
