Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine a number of Arabic loan words (‘arabismos’) all of which are connected with the semantic field of silk production. Particular attention is paid to the various etymological hypotheses found in the literature. A new definition of ‘arabismo’ is provided which takes into account the fact that the words occur in the context of a specific trade.
