Abstract

In this paper, we analyze critically John Searle’s recent propousals about the construction of social reality and the important role of reasons for acting with independence from desire. We distinguish between formal conceptions of rationality and more substantive ones, arguing that Searle’s approach is purelly formal and that it only manages to avoid discussions about content embracing a sociological and psychological exagerated optimism.
