Abstract

Insular Governments Organizational Peculiarities ofthe Islands with more Inhabitants. The reform ofthe local government law, that took place in 2003, brings a new organizational regulation for municipal and island local governments with more inhabitants. This new idea broke with the old Spanish tradition of administrative uniformity in the local government organization that in other reforms had made in a little manner. The insular government organization makes a differentiation between islands with more than 175.000 inhabitants and the other ones, though it permits the islands with more than 75.000 inhabitants to choose this new organization. The reform insists in the idea of governments and no mere local public administration in these islands with more inhabitants, because increase the executive powers of the island council president and his cabinet and the political control of Chamber oflsland Councillors
