Resumo

Since the universality of education, Sociology of Education and allied disciplines have studied the main educational agent: teaching staff. In spite of that, it could be said, according actual bibliography, we don´t know teachers of pre-university educative levels in our closest context of Canary Islands. There aren´t many publications about their social characteristics, their work conditions, their social-professional situation, the kind of training they receive (both initial and permanent ones) and about their thoughts: how they feel in their work place, what degree of satisfaction about their role they have, how they are recognized socially, how strong is their commitment to functions of educative system. The aim of this research would be to get more information about this teachers group. In order to that, they have been compared to same level teachers of the rest of the country and the international frame (basically form Europe and form OECD) has been considered as an important reference.
