Abstract

At the present time, Diadema antillarum is one of most abundant gregarious littoral marine invertebrates in the Canary Islands. Their grazing activity reduce drastically the algal cover, creating extensive barren areas in rocky bottom. In this work we studied the gut content in two contrasting habitat in Abades (southeast of Tenerife), one of them with hight densities of sea urchin (barren ground) and the other with low densities (grazing front).
