Donde la psicología evolutiva y la neurociencia se encuentran¿un encuentro amenazador u oportuno?

Resumen

Recientemente, ha emergido el campo de la neurociencia evolutiva cognitivo/socioafectiva como fruto del cruce entre la Psicología Evolutiva y la Neurociencia, ligado a los nuevos avances técnicos en la neuroimagen y la electrofisiología. Este artículo presenta argumentos y evidencias, a partir de una selección de áreas de investigación, con el fin de ilustrar la ventaja potencial del enfoque de la neurociencia para el estudio de los fenómenos evolutivos. Concretamente, se plantea que añadir datos neurológicos a nuestra teorización sobre el cambio puede producir varios efectos beneficiosos ya que: a) contribuye a reconsiderar los viejos debates bajo una nueva luz; b) ayuda a refinar algunos constructos psicológicos complejos; y c) desarrolla áreas de investigación que contemplan varios niveles de análisis, desde los genes hasta las influencias contextuales. Finalmente, se reflexiona sobre los retos que implica el adaptarse a nuevas tecnologías así como la construcción de nuevas propuestas teóricas. Se concluye que vale la pena afrontar los retos ya que pueden terminar con la polarización de nuestra disciplina entre los enfoques cognitivos y socioculturales mediante la inclusión de ambos dentro de una perspectiva más comprehensiva de los procesos evolutivos.
