Zusammenfassung

An approach to the relationship between the structure of the algae and its epibiotic polychaete feeding guilds is performed with three intertidal ph\coph\tes in Tenerife (Canan Islands): Jania adhaerens (Rhodoph\ta). Galaxaura rugosa (RhodophNta) and Cystoseira foeniculacea (Phaeoph\ta). The biot\pes of these algae (complexit\ of branching decreased from the first to the last species) could explain the differential composition of taxa and trophic gil'ds in polychaete microcommunities in terms of abundance and diversity. The three species as a whole support 13 polychaete families, distributed in 6 feeding guilds. Abundance and diversity were clearK higher in J. adhaerens. smaller in G rugosa and minimal in C. foeniculacea. Abundance and diversity of the polychaete taxa and feeding guilds decreased clearK from J. adhaerens to C. foeniculacea. Sessile, filter-feeding forms dominated the algal space in C. foeniculacea. whereas detritivore or predatory (herbivore-carnivore), motile taxa dominated in G. rugosa and J. adhaerens. We suggest that the tridimensional aichitecture of the algae is a major determinant of the organization of bottom polychaete communities, and presumabK man\ other benthic invertebrates, at the smaller scales.
