Resumen
Gender representation in the media and the idea that social progress is measured by equality between men and women are the axes of this paper, where partial results of a wider research on gender as a social category in the reality of Spanish society today, are presented. In a moment in which advances in the individual conscience are detected, regarding the categorization of the social roles played by both men and women, the determination of the role is analyzed in the daily national Spanish press, which shows in its discourse that a stereotyped and traditional image of gender roles is maintained. The analysis was developed through a multidisciplinary methodology for discourse analysis carried out in 4,064 units, taking as such a complete presentation, either information, opinion or advertising, in an aleatory survey of the national press circulation.
