Résumé

The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of several exchange rate regimes on international trade and tourism. A vast literature analyzes the impact of a common currency on trade. Furthermore, there exists a growing interest in studying the effect of currency unions on tourism. However, it is expected that other exchange rate regimes that imply low volatility also promote trade and tourism flows. This paper uses a dataset including 113 countries over the period 1995-2006 to estimate de influence of five exchange rate regimes on trade and tourism. The results show that intermediate exchange rate regimes between completely fixed and flexible exchange rates promote both trade and tourism flows.
