Abstract

Case report: 58-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of two neoformative hyperpigmented chorioretinal lesions. Ultrasonography revealed low reflectivity choroidal lesion suspicious of choroidal melanoma and confirmed by MRI. Angiographically we found a lesion with moth-eaten appearance. The Oncology Service performed the extension study that was normal and decided enucleation. Pathology confirms the diagnosis of 18 mm epithelioid melanoma. Three months later the patient developed massive liver metastasis. Discussion: The epithelioid melanoma is very aggressive and causes early distant metastasis. There is no pathognomonic angiographic pattern. Even though enucleation is performed, it does not avoid tumour spreading, and it can even favour it.
