Abstract

Navigation is a science that has slowly and gradually established itself as such. In the Middle Ages, navigation already possesed the characteristics of a science. These technological advances led many scholars of the period to produce works of great importance entirely devoted to nautical science. The main objective of the development of navigation techniques based on mathematic, philosophy and logic and of the changes in both local nautical instruments and those imported from the Orient was to achieve greater precision in astronomical techniques when used in the high seas.
