Abstract
The current crisis causes revision of strategic designs of national tourism models in order to find items that may constitute the basis of their strategic actions. This paper focuses on the diagnosis of the competitive aspects of Spanish tourist model, considering tourism models of competing countries of Spain and its biennial developments since 2009, including 2008. These aspects have been rated according to their level of importance in obtaining results, and therefore the possibility to position itself as a strong or weak spot in the national tourism competitiveness. Raised countries as units of analysis and defining the construct "tourism competitiveness," according to the scheme used by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in its Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report, we used the Rasch model for the implementation of the methodology diagnostic benchmarking with the achievement of the objectives will be addressed. From the results obtained it has been highlight that Spain is the most competitive tourist destination, followed by Portugal and Cyprus, and the importance of the components pillars of the regulatory framework, which Spain should emphasize variables such as government regulation or policy and health and hygiene to improve their competitiveness, to reveal a weakness of its tourism model.
