Abstract

Sebastião Salgado and his photographs are icons of the finish of the xx Century and the begining of the xxi Century. Trough his travels, after descover photography, he shows in many publications the dark side of life, the effects of the drought, the famine, inmigration, getting into a world full of pain wich envolved his life, making him loos his faith on the human being. Without darkness there is no light, and after his pain he creted with his inseparable partner and colleague,Lélia Wanick Salgado a proyect called Instituto Terra, to try to repopulate the plantation of his childhood, wich was asolated by the drought, in an effort of give back to the earth what is hers. After this idea come up Genesis, a photography proyect reached after eight years traveling, this time to make a singing of love to the pla- net. Recently was the premiere of the documentary The Salt of the Earth, directed by Wim Wenders and Juliano Ribeiro Salgado, in wich Sebastião Salgado makes a personal review about his photographic carrer and his personal life.
