Abstract

It evaluates the effect of the “Newton Project. Mathematics for Life” on the teachers and students of Pre-school education and first cycle of Primary Education. In a first study, from a qualitative approach, assessment of teachers (12 teachers) is collected and work dynamics is observed in the classroom of about 200 students from five different schools: 1 with long involvement in the project; 3 new addition; and one control group. In a second study, from a quantitative approach, student performance is evaluated on a test of problem solving mental arithmetic, using a quasi-experimental and traversal design: Consolidated group, 2 years participating in the program (N = 27); new addition group (N = 28); and control group (N = 29).
