Abstract

The main aim of this paper is the discovery of a wet period in the former Spanish Sahara between 1882 until 1890. We have based our results in carefully study of different proxies together with the scarce gauge record got in Cabo Juby (1884 and 1885). Has been very useful the notebook of Spaniards exploration and another one wrote by the French explorer Douls. On the other hand we have taken into account the oral tradition provided by the saharauis tribes and recorded by Spanish and French authors. All these data provide solid evidence for climatic phase rainier than today overall the territory. Indeed, this wet phase can be related with more global phenomena as NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) index and Rain Sahel Index.
