Zusammenfassung

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the history, pharmacological activity and therapeutic uses of mineral medicinal waters of Fuente Santa in La Palma Island, among 1500-2014.The waters of Fuente Santa of La Palma have been considered Medicinal Waters since the end of the fifteenth century. The spring was buried by sand and rock of San Antonio volcano in 1776. Many researchers have studied the medical properties from Fuente Santa waters. For example, Fray Abreu y Galindo in 1632 and Eduardo Navarro in 2012. Rediscovered in the early XXI century and declared medicinal mineral waters in 2009. The spring is located in the municipality of Fuencaliente on the island of La Palma. Methods: Physicochemical and chemical parameters have been analyzed. Pharmacological actions and therapeutic uses have been revised. Results: Temperature=42 ºC; Dry residue=30194 mg/L; Conductivity=37200 µS/cm; Hardness=484.4 ºF; Silica (SiO2)=129 mg/L; Carbon dioxide (CO2)=398 mg/L. Chemical parameters: Anions: Cl-=14900; SO4 2- = 3090; CO3H- = 1878; Br- = 63,8; Cations: Na+ = 8632; Mg++ = 911; K+ = 521,7; Ca++ = 454,9. Therefore, are chlorided sodic mineral waters. The Fuente Santa waters have been used between XVI - XVII centuries to treatment of: syphilis, leprosy, skin disorders, et cetera. Conclusions: At present, chlorided sodic waters show clinical indications well defined. Orally: gastrointestinal disorders. Respiratory tract: asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, emphysema, et cetera. Balneoterapy: chronic rheumatism, arthritis, arthrosis, psoriasis, skin disorders.
