Abstract

Foucault has insisted on the importance of a whole set of novelties that political attention towards the disease of leprosy makes appear. It refers to the emergence of techniques that pursue the objective of making the capillarity of power even more fluid and at the same time increasing the knowledge on which it is based as a necessary foundation, thus establishing the truth about the patient and the disease. Among the key aspects of the public health problem, the preventive factor is of great importance. Esposito sees an analogy between how to treat the offender and how to deal with the patient suffering from an infectious disease, which is considered as potentially harmful to society and even as a criminal, even if he has no will To harm their fellow men. In this work, the ruins of the leprosarium of Arico (Tenerife, Canary Islands) serve as a starting point to reflect on these issues.
