Abstract

Introduction: We are going to study a spring called “Los Chorros del Roque”, located in “Barranco del Roque”, near to “Barranco de Guayadeque”, Ingenio, Gran Canaria. This water emerges spountaneously and it has been used by the people who live in the village since 19th century for consumption and for the animals. Methods: Physicochemical and chemical parameters have been analyzed. Possible pharmacological actions and therapeutic uses have been revised. Results: This water is colourless, odourless and does not have anomalous taste. According to the analysis, this water emerges to 18 ºC; pH = 6.8; conductivity = 350 μS/cm; Dry residue = 214 mg/L; Hardness = 8.8 ºF; Silica =60 mg/L. Consecuently, this water is slightly acidic, weak mineralization, soft and siliceous. The most abundant components (mg/L) are: Anions: Cl- = 50; SO4 2- = 10; CO3H- = 66; NO3- = 30; Cations: Na+ = 28; Mg+2 = 13; K+ = 1.9; Ca+2 = 14. According to the results, this water is chlorided-sodic by its composition, within of waters of weak mineralization. Furthermore, when they are consumed have diuretic, anti-lithiasic, antibacterial, digestive and remineralizing actions. Conclusions: This is the first time that this spring is studied. In addition, this water will be comparate with the water from “Toscal”, spring of Mineral Natural Water that is located in “La Pasadilla” too.
