Resumo
The Canary Islands house one of the 21 Spanish geological frameworks of international relevance, called “Volcanic edifices and morphologies of the Canary Islands” and have fourteen geosites, which are part of the Spanish Inventory of Places of Geological Interest (IELIG). There are several inventories of geological heritage on an insular- and municipal-scale made with different methodologies too. However, there is no a systematic geological heritage inventory that has been undertaken for the entire Canary archipelago. In this work a proposal is presented to denominate a number of regional geological frameworks within the geological framework of international relevance already defined as a previous step to the realization of the geoheritage inventory of this Spanish Autonomous Community. Thus, twelve regional geological frameworks have been established in a first phase, which are representative of the geological domain of the archipelago and will allow the selection of their most representative and illustrative regional geosites. These regional frameworks may be common for other volcanic oceanic islands, especially those of the Macaronesia.
