Laburpena

The concepts of progress, development of knowledge, education, responsibility and common senseare essential to understand J. A. Álvarez Rixo’s points of view and to see the nature of his writings. He devoted much of his lifetime to the compilation of information and to the analysis of everything related to the world of the Canaries: the past and the present, the material aspects and moral principles, the personalities and the society, the traditional manners and the social and political debate, and this is how he left us an outstanding amount of writings, many of which are on history, ethnography, linguistics and economy, among other fields. This paper aims to be an approach to the main keys of this production and to examine the ways followed by the editions of the texts, as well as the main features of the studies carried out on the matter. The last section of the paper is an updated and annotated bibliography, which can be used as an effective tool to approach the studies by and on the author.
