Abstract

Timanfaya National Park, with its numerous volcanoes, unique geology and amazing landscape is the most popular attraction on Lanzarote island for tourists. It is eminently a geological Park and represents a sampling of historial and recent volcanism in the Canaries with high value not only for tourists but also for scientists. In this National Park, the ecological processes of colonization and biological succesion take place, and lichens have a predominant role. The ultimate aims of this research are to generate an inventory of the lichen biota of this area and evaluate its species richness and also study the most representative communities and their evolution.
