Abstract

The circular rotary mills of Tenerife, made in vacuolar lavas, were the subject of one of the first monographic studies carried out on Canary archaeological repertoires. Pedro Mendez's quarry-mill workshop, located in Las Cañadas del Teide, was the first to be described and studied in the Archipelago in 1953 by Luis Diego Cuscoy. In spite of this, we still lack precise knowledge about the old quarries of Guanches mills, the technical processes of extraction, processing and distribution, as well as everything related to the specialized work of stonework and the social relations of production. In this work we present the preliminary results obtained in the archaeological interventions and the interdisciplinary study carried out in two new quarries mill workshop, located in Las Cañadas del Teide (Montaña Cruz de Tea and Los Corrales), integrated in the framework of the project Of research GECATE on the study and historical evolution of the occupation of the high mountain of Tenerife.
