This article analyses the labor relations in the agricultural subsectors of the plátano, the tomato and the manufacture of tobacco during the first part of the Franco regime. This period was characterized by extensive intervention in all of the productive activities of the country and was especially significant for the Canary Archipelago. The island economies possessed an important progressive component and were based on free trade and a special tax system. The archipelago was seriously affected by an economic policy based on autarchy. In this sense, the market did not remain on the margin of such a control, as shown by the rigid labour market that was applied to the aforementioned sectors. The result was a loss of income for the farmers.
